A Bad Spell for the Worst Witch Junior Book Club

If things go from bad to worst for hapless Mildred Hubble in Jill Murphy’s delightful ‘A Bad Spell for the Worst Witch’, the same certainly cannot be said for the quizzing skills of our younger book club members, joined by special guests R7!

In our enchanting final Book Club of the year, Slytherin (aka Bute 1) cast a spell on the opposition and ensured a comfortable victory with their impressively in-depth answers. The children all dazzled with their show of magical knowledge – brilliant!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Junior Book Club

There was a touch of magic about the final Book Club of the academic year. Teams were ‘sorted’ into Hogwarts houses before engaging in a wizarding duel to win the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Book Club quiz (many were dressed for the part). Congratulations to Hufflepuff (aka Mostyn 1) for casting the winning spell. A packet of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans added some hilarity to the final proceedings as all participants were challenged to pick a bean…alas, some, like Dumbledore, picked vomit flavour!

Next Junior Book Club

On the back of the popularity of the summer half-term’s Book Club texts, many Book Club members have been inspired to read other books in the Harry Potter and Worst Witch series. In recognition of this, and to encourage summer reading, the texts for September’s Book Clubs will return to Hogwarts and Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches. Members can choose between the following texts:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling (aimed at older readers)

Worst Witch All at Sea by Jill Murphy (suitable for all)

The next Junior Book Club will be held, in Period 7, on Thursday 26th September. As always, those who have read the text, had it read to them or have listened to the audiobook are welcome to attend.

Happy reading,

Mr R Dennis & Miss A Sheehy
