R13 Latin Trip to Caerleon
R13 enjoyed an informative trip to Caerleon Roman town on Thursday. The trip began with a visit to the Roman Amphitheatre where the pupils were encouraged to spot particular architectural features and use their imaginations to recreate the amphitheatre’s impressive scale.
We then walked a short distance to the Roman Baths, which have been enhanced by state-of-the-art 3D projectors and sound effects to recreate an authentic atmosphere. Our informative guide directed us through the various stages of the bathing experience and demonstrated the ingenious methods used by the Romans to provide underfloor heating. The boys and girls enjoyed the interactive elements of the baths, in particular writing on a wax tablet, handling a strigil and especially trying on the gladiators’ helmets and armour. R13 should be commended for their enthusiasm and attentive approach throughout the day.
