R11 Reading Group
The latest meeting of the R11 Reading Group took place at the very end of term, where this time the topic for in-depth discussion was Sally Nicholls’ multiple award-winning debut Ways to Live Forever.
Presented as a scrapbook from the perspective of Sam, an 11-year-old suffering from a very serious illness, the children found that, despite its subject, the novel’s warmth and humour stood out. Once again we were taken aback by quite how much the children had picked up from this challenging and emotionally draining text and their engagement with it was a privilege to see.
Next time we shall be turning to something very different, a science fiction dystopia with Lois Lowrie’s highly influential modern classic, The Giver. All in R11 who have read the book are welcome to attend.
