Junior Book Club
Texts by the current Children’s Laureate, Malorie Blackman, were enthusiastically received at the recent Junior Book Clubs. Both clubs were able to demonstrate a good understanding of two unusual and challenging texts; one science fiction text and the other written in verse. Congratulations to Mostyn and to St David’s Team 2 for winning the Thief and Cloud Busting quizzes respectively.
The next Book Club text is: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. This, the best known of the Narnia Chronicles, was first published in 1950 and remains one of the most enduringly popular children’s books ever published: “The magic of C. S. Lewis’s parallel universe never fades” – The Times. Pupils can choose to read either the original text or a sensitively abridged edition, beautifully illustrated by Christian Birmingham.
The next Junior Book Club will be held, in Circle Time, on Tuesday 13th January. As always, those who have read the text, had it read to them or have listened to the audio book are welcome to attend.
