‘Best Chairperson’, ‘Best Speaker’ and Winners of Senior Rotary Youth Speaks

On Thursday 22 January, St John’s College hosted its second Rotary Youth Speaks Competition of the week.  This time it was the turn of the Senior category (ages 14-17).  A total of five teams competed from Howell’s School, Llanishen High and St John’s College.  Yet again, the teams were praised for their high standards of speaking and thoroughly researched topics.

Our R15 (Yr 10) team, comprising Lily B. (Chairperson), Praneet B. (Speaker) and Benedict D. (Proposer of the Vote of Thanks) posed the question ‘Is it time to arm the police?’.

Meanwhile, the overall winners of the competition were our L6th team of Ryan Martyn (Chairperson), Rebecca Daniels (Speaker) and Bethan Thomas (Proposer of the Vote of Thanks), who asserted that ‘Learning modern foreign languages is a cultural necessity’.

Both teams performed superbly, gaining awards for being overall winners (L6th), ‘Best Chairperson’ (Lily B.) and ‘Best Speaker’ (Rebecca Daniels) between them.  We wish our L6th team good luck as they now progress to the area final at Cardiff Golf Club next month.

Many congratulations to all our public speakers on these impressive achievements.

Mr J. Neville
