Tom’s Midnight Garden Junior Book Club

Congratulations to all pupils who read this half-term’s classic text, Tom’s Midnight Garden, by Philippa Pearce. Teams Bute and St David’s narrowly won a lively Book Club quiz where a range of views were expressed and debated.

The next Junior Book Clubs will be held on Tuesday 28 April

The authors of the next Book Club texts are acclaimed for writing modern classics. Pupils can choose between:

Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson or Cool! by Michael Morpurgo. Journey to the River Sea has been described as: ‘The most perfect children’s book…captivatingly told, funny and moving’ – The Sunday Times. Anne Fine, Children’s Laureate (2001-2003) described it as ‘Enchanting and inspiring. Any reader presented with this book will be enriched for life’.

Reviews for Cool! and Michael Morpurgo include, ‘Absorbing and satisfying with a real story at its heart’ – The Guardian. ‘Michael Morpurgo’s name on a book is a guarantee of quality’ – The Telegraph.

The next Junior Book Clubs will be held, in Circle Time, on Tuesday 28th April. As always, those who have read the text, had it read to them or have listened to the audio book are welcome to attend.

Happy reading,

Mrs Cooney & Mrs Criddle
