Junior Book Club Winners

There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom Junior Book

Book Club members showed empathy and affection for the characters in this unusual text by Louis Sachar. The central character’s journey of discovery provoked a thoughtful discussion about, friendship, growing up and learning to think independently. Congratulations to quiz winners, Mostyn 2.

The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark Junior Book Club

Jill Tomlinson’s text proved very popular with Book Club members from R8 to R10. Members recalled the characters and their gems of wisdom with great enthusiasm and accuracy. Congratulations to teams Mostyn 2 and Bute 1 for jointly winning this half-term’s quiz.

Next Junior Book Club
The next Book Club text, A
Christmas Carol, n eeds little introduction. Pupils can choose between two editions of this classic tale.

A Christmas Carol (abridged) by Charles Dickens / illustrated by Christian Birmingham (aimed at older readers) or A Christmas Carol ( retold) by Gill Tavner (suitable for all)

Please be aware that the Junior library stocks a range of Dickens’ classics (retold). Many pupils enjoyed reading alternative titles by the most recent Book Club authors, Sachar and Tomlinson and the Dickens titles are currently proving to be popular too.

The next Junior Book Club will be held, in Circle Time, on Tuesday 12th January. As always, those who have read the text, had it read to them or have listened to the audiobook at welcome to attend.

Happy reading,

Mrs J Cooney & Mrs D Criddle
