Sixth Formers Compete in Cambridge Schools’ Debating
On Saturday 23 January, eight sixth formers competed in the Cambridge Schools’ Debating Competition hosted by Howell’s School. Thirty-two teams from twelve schools in South Wales and the South West of England took part in three debates from 12-7pm – a long day for all involved!
The students were given only fifteen minutes to prepare for each motion, with topics ranging from whether judges should be elected, whether graduates should be required to remain in developing countries and whether bystanders should have legal obligation to intervene to protect victims of crime. Congratulations to Hannah, Nila, Peter, Robbie, Hee-Chan and Aditya of Lower 6th and Rebecca and Pari of Upper 6th who achieved admirable positions in each of the debates, including several 1st place positions and an overall ranking of fourth position, missing out on the final by only one position. Congratulations to all debaters involved.
