Senior Public Speakers Win Rotary Youth Speaks

On Thursday 28 January, six of our Senior pupils took part in Rotary Youth Speaks hosted by Llanishen High School, 6-8.30pm.  A total of seven teams competed from Howell’s School, Llanishen High, St John’s College and Chapter Arts Independents.  All teams were praised for their confident speaking and thoroughly researched topics.

St John’s Team 1: ‘The importation, sale and consumption of all drugs should be legalised in Britain’
Chair – Ben C (R15); Speaker – Lily M (R16); Proposer of the Vote of Thanks – Ben Rawi (R16)

St John’s Team 2: ‘If we understood men better then there would be no need for feminism’
Chair – Daniel S (R15); Speaker – Lily B (R16); Proposer of the Vote of Thanks – Ben D (R16)

Both teams offered fluent and insightful speeches and can be very proud of their high quality performances.  St John’s Team 2 were crowned overall winners and will now progress to the Area Final at Cardiff Golf Club on Monday.

This is the third year consecutively that St John’s College pupils have won both the intermediate and senior competitions.

Many congratulations to all our public speakers.
