Rotary Youth Speaks Welsh Final

On Saturday 5 March, our Senior public speaking team travelled to Cowbridge Comprehensive School for the Welsh Final of the Rotary Youth Speaks Competition.  Having already progressed through several stages of the competition, our team now represented Cardiff against winning competitors from across Wales (eight teams in total), some of whom had travelled from as far as Fishguard and Crickhowell.

After a long and fascinating afternoon of speeches, our team were praised by the Chair of judges, Eluned Parrott AM, for offering ‘a clever philosophical debate’ and for their ‘use of rhetorical devices’.  As our main speaker, Lily offered a captivating speech on the importance of engaging men in the feminist cause to ensure that gender inequality becomes a societal rather than a minority issue.  Congratulations to the overall winners, St John Lloyd Catholic School, Llanelli, who spoke poignantly on the need for a compassionate approach to the Syrian migration crisis.

Daniel (R15), Lily and Ben (R16) can be very proud of their performances and of reaching this highly commendable stage in the competition.

Mr J. Neville
