R12/R13 WRU Training Visit

The R12 and R13 Rugby teams were treated to an excellent day out at the Principality Stadium this morning. This was thanks to our unique relationship with the Welsh Rugby Union through our sixth form pupil Jo P., who is a member of the WRU Youth Board.

We had the pleasure of watching the national squad in their final preparation for the Japan game this weekend. The session involved lots of set piece plays and gave the pupils a fantastic insight to the level of commitment required to compete at the elite level.

At the end of the training session, pupils got to meet all of the squad players who were happy to have photos and sign autographs.

The pupil’s favourite, Leigh Halfpenny, kept us waiting as he continued to train long after the whole squad had left. The pupils witnessed his goal kicking masterclass and a work ethic they can aspire to. The pupils of St John’s were exceptionally well mannered throughout, a credit to our school.

I would like to thank the WRU for allowing us access to such a fantastic event, and also to Jo P (U6th) for her dedication to ensure the trip went ahead.

Many thanks,

Mr Williams

Message from Mrs Wood:

Following today’s trip, we will be donating the signed and kicked ball by Leigh Halfpenny to the Kidsout charity www.kidsout.org.uk for under-privileged children, for the second consecutive year.
