Ash Wednesday Junior Assembly

On Ash Wednesday the Junior Department had a visit from Mr John Burns, a representative from the Mission Together charity.

He spoke to us about the work of Mission Together and introduced us to this years project in Kenya.

He told us how a small amount of money could help so much. The pupils were surprised that 50p could provide a balanced meal for a hungry child at the project. They realised that a small sacrifice for them would make such a huge difference to someone like Eunice.

As a Junior Department we decided to make Mission Together the focus for our Lenten collection. Each pupil received a Lenten calendar and a small mission box along with a booklet from the charity. The idea would be to put a small donation in the box, while the calendar encourages the pupils to think of ways that they could help others, or to think about the Easter story.

In school we have been using prayer to help children around the word by saying the Mission prayer Together.

May all children
In the world
Share love
Share friendship and live
In the peace
Of God’s love
Now and forever. Amen

The motto of Mission Together is ‘Children Helping Children.’

We will be collecting the Mission boxes on Thursday April 6th. Any money collected after this can be brought to school after Easter so that I can share with you our final total.

Many thanks in advance for supporting such a worthy charity.
