Netball News

On Tuesday afternoon the R13 netball team were involved in an exciting match against Kings Monkton. St John’s won both games with an 8-4 win and a 1-0 win. Congratulations to Charlotte and Nithya who were both chosen as player of the matches. Well done to all involved.

On Wednesday afternoon the R12, R13 and R14 netball teams played St Cyres at home.

All games were full of exciting interceptions and excellent passing. The R14 girls won their match 18 goals to 4. Congratulations to Catrin who was awarded with player of the Match and scored some excellent goals.

The R12 and R13 girls won their match eighteen goals to nil. There were some excellent goals scored by Harshita, Elizabeth, Maddy, Daniela and Carys.  Congratulations to all pupils who made an excellent contribution to their team’s fantastic win.

On Thursday the R10/11 pupils represented St John’s College at the Cardiff Games Primary School Netball Finals. The pupils were in pool C with Millbank, Cadoxton and Bro Morgannwg. The first game saw the R10/11 girls play against Bro Morgannwg and won one nil. The girls then unfortunately lost against Cadoxton and Millbank. The girls then went on to play Glyncoed in the next round and drew one whole. Excellent goals scored by Nadia. Congratulations to all the pupils involved in this final.

Football News

Last Friday the R8/R9 football teams participated in a tournament with Rougemont School. St John’s were able to field four teams which meant that in total over 70 pupils participated in the tournament. There was some excellent performances throughout the afternoon from all teams.

The R12 and R13 Football teams played Rougemount school away Monday afternoon in challenging weather conditions. Despite the conditions both teams played fantastically well and there were many positives to take from both games. St John’s drew one game 3-3 with goals coming from Daniel H, Oliver H and Aditya S. In the other game St John’s suffered a 3-0 defeat man of the match was awarded to Akash N. Well done to all involved.

On Wednesday afternoon the R14 Football team were involved in a thrilling match vs Rougemont school at Began Road playing fields. St John’s took the lead twice in the game through Josh W and Christian J but unfortunately ended up losing 4-2. Man of the match was awarded to Evan L for an outstanding performance. Congratulations to all involved.

On Wednesday afternoon the R12/13 Football team took on Fitzalan High School away on 3G due to poor pitch conditions. The pupils played fantastically well and drew the game 2-2.

Rugby News

The R13 team competed in the quarter finals Cardiff under 13 plate cup this week against a strong St Teilos team. The R13 team had worked extremely hard to get to this stage of the competition with an exceptional win at home to Kings Monkton in the last 16. St Teilos proved to be too strong on this occasion. This was an excellent learning experience for our pupils. Well done to Oliver H who carried the ball with aggression throughout. Congratulations to St Teilos went on to win the competition comfortably.

The R12 entered the Cardiff Schools Sevens tournament on Monday. Pupils played 3 games in the group stage against a very strong opposition. Pupils performed admirably in their first two games but struggled to hold out the opposition. In the 3rd game against Fitzalan primary school pupils were outstanding running away with a 35-10 victory. A special mention to Michal P for his outstanding ball carrying. Well done to all involved,
