R11 Reading Group
Our keen and committed older readers once again tackled a very challenging and thought-provoking text ready for discussion at our latest meeting of the R11 Reading Group; this time choosing to look at Sally Nicholls’ multiple award-winning debut Ways to Live Forever.
Presented as a scrapbook from the perspective of Sam, an 11-year-old suffering from a serious illness, the children found that, despite its subject, the novel’s warmth and humour stood out. Throughout, they thoroughly impressed us with their maturity and insight. However, this was most notable when they concluded that the story as a whole acts as a celebration of life.
Next time we shall be looking at Philip Pullman’s modern classic, and Carnegie award-winning, Northern Lights, in preparation for discussion at the end of term. All in R11 who have read the book are welcome to attend.
