Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition
Congratulations to the Sixth form pupils who completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award qualifying three-day expedition, successfully walking from Llanthony Priory to the Talybont Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons.
Mr Evans and Miss Thomas were delighted to see the pupils using accurate map reading skills and being able to use the compass effectively to confirm bearings on the map. During the expedition, all pupils demonstrated and developed a variety of key skills, important for forthcoming University applications and future career prospects. These included leadership, teamwork, self-motivation, communication, organisation, confidence and determination.
All the groups were well equipped and always cheerful. They looked after one another and they made sure they helped each other along the way. The groups engaged with their expedition aim and took some fantastic photos of the beautiful countryside. The twenty conditions of a Duke of Edinburgh’s expedition were met, enabling all pupils to successfully pass this section and near completion of the overall Award, before progressing onto the Gold Award.
