Opening of the new Sixth Form Centre
Our new Sixth Form Centre was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Dianne Rees, on Friday 28th September 2018. This new facility is part of the school’s aim to provide the very best sixth form education and equip our students for the demands of the modern world.
Established in 1987, St John’s College has gained an enviable reputation over 30 years for its outstanding academic results, both at GCSE and A Level. The Sunday Times ‘Parent Power’ supplement awarded the school ‘Wales Independent Secondary School of the Year 2018′ in recognition of our students’ achievements and commitment to an exciting programme of co-curricular activities. Emphasis on an ethos that promotes the development of the whole child, in preparation for University and careers after school, was also critical in attaining this accolade.
Friday’s ceremony was attended by a number of the school’s Trustees, members of the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Sixth Form and teaching staff. Representatives from our Parents’ Association were also in attendance and were joined by Ms Hayley Parsons OBE, founder of GoCompare. Members of the cathedral choir performed works both sacred and secular, and our honoured guests were given an extensive tour of the centre.
Our Sixth Form students can look forward to a stimulating and varied education at the new centre, whilst remaining very much part of the wider school community. Our provision for care, support and guidance has been recognised by Estyn inspectors and we remain committed to ensuring our pupils and students are treated as individuals in keeping with the school’s Catholic ethos.
