    Congratulations to all our Senior School pupils who represented their houses on Monday 29th June at the National Indoor Athletics Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University.  The overall winners were Mostyn House.   • R8 Harry Potter Induction Week

    From 22nd – 26th June, R7 pupils joined R8 and spent the week investigating the world of Harry Potter and J K Rowling. They made wizard hats, cloaks and wands and wrote spells using ink and feather quills. The pupils had fun making coloured potions and writing secret messages with invisible ink.…

  • R14 History Trip to the Somme

    On 10th June at 6am a party of 23 R14 GCSE History pupils and 3 staff left St John’s College for our annual pilgrimage to the battlefields of the First World War in France and Belgium. We were accompanied by our experienced guide, Tom Morgan.  As ever there was a packed itinerary and upon arriving at Calais we made our way to the town of Ypres in Belgium, the scene of intense fighting throughout the conflict.…

    On June 10th, R9 visited the Tudor House of Llancaiach Fawr. The pupils were able to take a tour of the house, led by a Tudor servant. The children visited each room of the house, learning about their purpose as they passed through. Aryan said he ‘enjoyed seeing how Tudor people lived’ and Kelsie added that ‘it’s just what we learnt about in school’.…

  • R10 Pirate Day at Port Eynon

    On 9th June R10 travelled to Port Eynon where they learnt how pirates had used the area to bring ashore their contraband.  The pupils were able to develop their mapping skills to discover Luca’s hidden treasure.  The children had lots of fun as they practised using compasses, following different directions and bearings, as well as using 4 and 6 figure grid references. …

    On 8 June, R8 visited the Roman remains at Caerleon. The pupils were able to take a tour of the museum, where they learnt about life as a Roman soldier, and saw a lot of very interesting Roman artefacts. James has said that he ‘really enjoyed dressing up in Roman armour’ and Tanisha was very impressed with the staff who were dressed as Roman people, saying that ‘it made the history seem real’. …
