  • Orchestral & Choral Music Collaboration Day

    On Thursday 22 October, our Music Department welcomed pupils from across Cardiff to join our pupils in an orchestral and choral music collaboration day.  The afternoon’s performances featured the Concert Orchestra, Cathedral Choir, Training Orchestra and Junior Girls’ Choir.  The Concert Orchestra performed Walton’s Crown Imperial and Elgar’s Chanson de Matin and members of the orchestra gave lively demonstrations of instruments to introduce the pupils to the orchestra.  …

  • A Level Maths Quiz

    On 21st October 2015 Lower and Upper Sixth students once again took part in the annual A-Level Mathematics Quiz at the University of South Wales. Mr Stewart and Miss Jones accompanied three separate teams of students, who all a credit to the school.   • Harvest Festival

    On Tuesday 20th October, children from the Infant and Junior departments joined with the Middle School for our annual Harvest Festival.  The service included lovely hymns by the infants and the Girls’ Choir, who were accompanied superbly by Menglin on the violin.  The students contributed with readings, poetry and a short reflection on the importance of giving thanks and sharing with others.  …

    On Wednesday 14th October, R10 visited Cog Moors where we learnt more about the water cycle. R10 carried out lots of fun activities; highlights included making rain and a challenge to see which group could produce the cleanest water through filtering.     Our Lower Sixth students were delighted to be invited by Cardiff University Politics & International Relations Department to the Pierhead Building on Tuesday to participate in a ‘Parliament Week’ workshop.  Seventeen students were divided into three groups to discuss ways to increase youth participation in politics.  The proposals of our teams will now be submitted to the Political Studies Association for consideration at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster.  …

  • R16 Pupils Attend Rugby World Cup Training

    Some of the GCSE Physical Education students witnessed a fantastic display of sporting facilities, technology, media and training areas today as the international rugby teams prepare for this weekend’s matches.  The pupils saw some French players and reporters before today’s press conference.   • R13 Geography Trip to Caswell Bay

    R13 Geography classes very much enjoyed their visit to Caswell Bay on the Mumbles where the sun shone all day. The pupils investigated how the bay had been, and continues to be, subjected to the power of the waves. They sketched the coastal features including headlands, faults, caves and arches. In groups they made sand sculptures to represent the processes of erosion and later they timed waves to help them to decide if they were destructive or constructive waves.…

    Thirty-three Music GCSE pupils from R14 and R15 were chosen by the BBC to attend the Welsh Premiere screening of their ‘Ten Pieces’ programme of classical music for secondary schools. There were dramatic extracts from Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries, R. Vaughan Williams’ exquisite Lark Ascending with Nicola Benedetti and Haydn’s vital Trumpet Concerto with Alison Balsam; we also heard Bizet’s eternal melodies from Carmen and Bach’s brilliant Toccata and Fugue in D minor played by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra based in Salford, Manchester.…

    On 1 October the children were lucky enough to welcome Enid to our junior school for the day. She came to tell the children traditional Welsh folk stories. These exciting stories, including some time-honoured Welsh myths and legends, had the children gripped from start to finish. Imogen said that she ‘loved the stories’ and Ved ‘did not want the story to end’.…
