    At the Cathedral Carol Service on Sunday 20th December, Dr David Neville was honoured to be appointed a Papal Knight of the Pontifical Order of St Gregory. Canon Peter Collins, Dean of the Metropolitan Cathedral, announced: ‘On behalf of the Cathedral Community I extend our warmest congratulations to Dr David Neville KSG upon receiving a Papal Knighthood within the Order of St Gregory from His Holiness Pope Francis.…

    ​A Christmas Carol s​eems to have inspired another generation, 173 years after it was first written. For Junior pupils to have read this classic tale in Dickens’ own words, albeit abridged and then to be able to discuss it with such confidence and enthusiasm was impressive, congratulations to all.   • Junior Trip to The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe

    On Friday, 11th December, the Junior Department visited the Sherman Theatre to see ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. Both pupils and staff enjoyed this well-loved tale by C. S. Lewis which was brought to life in a magical musical production. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy sang their way through the wardrobe into the enchanted world of Narnia where they met speaking animals, an evil queen and the mighty lion, Aslan.…

  • Menglin is awarded National Children’s Orchestra Leverhulme Scholarship 2016

    Many congratulations to Menglin (R13) who was successful in her National Children’s Orchestra (GB) audition held in October and was awarded the NCO-Leverhulme Scholarship 2016.  Menglin is recipient of one of only 20 scholarship awards made to over 1,096 applicants across UK, and will attend the awards ceremony on 27th February 2016.…

    Of our 11 SK qualifiers,  7 pupils have passed with ‘merit’ which is awarded to only the top 25% of qualifiers (with a score of at least 50). Christina and Doris, both from Lower VI, performed extremely well and scored 80% and 75%.   • Daniel S receives Silver Crest Award for F1 in Schools

    Daniel S (R15) led a very successful team at last year’s F1 in Schools competition designing a model car using Autodesk / CAD software. In addition to designing and building the car for racing, the team were required to present an exhibition of their work, collect sponsorship, produce a twenty page portfolio and give a verbal presentation to a panel of judges.…

  • GCSE Mathematics Quiz

    Last week our R16 students once again took part in the annual GCSE Mathematics Quiz at the University of South Wales. Two enthusiastic teams were accompanied to the event by Mr Stewart. One team achieved fourth place overall and the other was pronounced winner of the estimation challenge.     The nursery children recently went to The Thornhill farm shop to visit the animals and buy their Christmas tree for outside their classroom. We all had a lovely time and enjoyed visiting the cows, pigs, sheep and donkeys and we even saw Baby Jesus asleep in the manger.   • Cathedral Choir Christmas Concert

    This December, Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral Choir performed its 33rd annual Christmas concert at St David’s Hall, joined by two outstanding pianists and a chamber orchestra of 18 instrumentalists from St John’s College. The choir performed a lovely programme of well-known favourites such as The Holly and the Ivy and Dr David Neville’s sophisticated arrangement of Silent Night alongside an equally joyful selection of less familiar repertoire.…
