  • R8-R10 Football Festival

    This afternoon St John’s College organised a football festival for R8, R9 and R10 pupils at Cardiff University Sports Campus with Llandaff Cathedral School. The current R16 GCSE pupils were involved in the organisation and running of the festival which was a huge success. Over 90 pupils were involved in the festival and all involved were a credit to the school.…

  • Senior Public Speakers Win Rotary Youth Speaks

    On Thursday 28 January, six of our Senior pupils took part in Rotary Youth Speaks hosted by Llanishen High School, 6-8.30pm.  A total of seven teams competed from Howell’s School, Llanishen High, St John’s College and Chapter Arts Independents.  All teams were praised for their confident speaking and thoroughly researched topics.…

  • R13 Public Speakers Win Intermediate Rotary Youth Speaks & ‘Best Speaker’

    Two teams of R13 pupils entered the Rotary Club’s annual Youth Speaks competition on Tuesday, 26th January. Our first team, Aviral B, Menglin L and Kimaya M, discussed whether money can buy happiness, with great success. This was immediately followed by our second team, Charlotte T, Jacob V and Jack A, debating eloquently whether we should explore space.…

  • Sixth Formers Compete in Cambridge Schools’ Debating

    On Saturday 23 January, eight sixth formers competed in the Cambridge Schools’ Debating Competition hosted by Howell’s School. Thirty-two teams from twelve schools in South Wales and the South West of England took part in three debates from 12-7pm – a long day for all involved!  The students were given only fifteen minutes to prepare for each motion, with topics ranging from whether judges should be elected, whether graduates should be required to remain in developing countries and whether bystanders should have legal obligation to intervene to protect victims of crime.…

    The R15 pupils have been working on their Careers Game project.  The main aim is to help R15 students become aware of their own money habits and consider the differences between wants and needs.   Students will be exploring life skills by completing weekly tasks such as: job roles, rent, council tax, costings of a weekly shop, house prices, transport costs, budgeting for holidays and much more.  …

    On Sunday 10 January our boy and girl choristers and gentlemen of the choir offered a superb live broadcast on BBC Radio 4 to an estimated audience of 1.6 million.  The highlight of the service was Bruckner’s sublime motet, Os Justi.     Last term, R11 enjoyed stepping back in time to the Victorian era, as they visited Maestir School in St Fagans. Pupils started their day in true Victorian fashion, wearing clothes typical of the historical period.
