    On 31st January the Juniors took part in peer to peer reading, where the R10 and R11 pupils were paired up with the younger R8 and R9 pupils to hear them read.     On Wednesday evening, eight of our L6 students took part in the Cambridge Union Schools Debating Competition.  Our teams performed well against strong competition and found the experience very valuable.  It was an excellent first opportunity for some of our Sixth Formers to participate in competitive debating, and offered valuable experience for the Oxford Union competition next week.…

    On Thursday night, two teams of public speakers from St John’s College took part in the Rotary Youth Speaks Senior Competition hosted by Llanishen High School.  A total of sixth teams were involved from Howell’s School, Llanishen High and St John’s College. The R16 team, comprising Alif (Chairperson), Rowan (Speaker) and Idris (Proposer of the Vote of Thanks), spoke convincingly on the benefits of veganism and offered their best performance to date.  …

The test lived up to its name and was very challenging, however, the children enjoyed puzzling over the problem-solving questions.
