Junior Book Club members were captivated by this classic text and revelled in the opportunity to pit their wits against each other in the inter-house Book Club quiz.…

    The nursery children have had a very busy week full of lots of learning experiences. We have been reading Oliver’s vegetables, learning the letter sound ‘h’ and learning all about the language of position in Mathematics. During PE we have been practising our balancing skills and on Friday we cooked pizzas in our cooking lesson and planted some Winter flowers in Outdoor Learning.…

  • R12 Race Day – Monday 22nd January

    On Monday 22nd January, nine R12 teams competed against each other in order to achieve first place overall. Due to the extremely high standards of all the teams, we had two teams that came joint first; Team Infinity and Evolution. Team Infinity came first in the car scrutineering, achieving 130 out of 140 and their pit display demonstrated a professional and informative approach.…

    We were transported back into the days of the Ancient Romans when we visited the Roman Baths in Bath earlier this week. The children in R8 were fascinated by the 46 degree water bubbling up from the Springs of Aquae Sulis and the steam rising up into the cool January air.…

  • Sixth Form DT students visit to Linear Plastics

    On Thursday, 25th January, the lower and upper sixth DT students visited an injection moulding company, Linear Plastics. They were warmly welcomed into the establishment by Andrew Harrison, who expertly explained the complex process of injection moulding, from the initial design concept on CAD through to the completed product. Not only did he show examples of end products and the different materials available, he gave a tour of the factory, giving the students first-hand experience of viewing the machinery in use.…

  • Primary Maths Challenge

    Big congratulations to Mrs Thompson’s class who sat the Primary Maths Challenge.  As a class, they did themselves proud this year.  As the name implies, it is a challenging competition! Hiya R was awarded Gold, Krishna L was awarded Silver, Aditya G and Joseph C have been awarded the Bronze.  They are our potential final round participators in February. …

  • Visiting author, Cathy Farr

    R10 had an inspiring experience today when author Cathy Farr visited and led pupils through a writing workshop. Activities included using alternative words to improve sentences and extending a short simple sentence into a paragraph describing a situation in detail. Members of R10 commented afterwards that the day had been “really fun” and explained how they had learnt some words to avoid in their own writing.…

  • R5 Visit to the National Museum of Wales

    R5 visited The National Museum of Wales where they learnt about dinosaur sounds, taking part in a musical workshop. The children also compared their teeth and feet size to those of Tyrannosaurus Rex. Yezen had a close encounter with a meat eater! The children discovered lots of fossils and dinosaur bones and they also learnt about volcanoes and earthquakes.…

  • The Gold Crest Award

    The Gold Crest Award group have decided on a project and have started their practical work this week. Pupils have been researching the effect of carbonated energy drinks on teeth.  The group carried out preliminary trials this week, submerging marble chips and egg shells (tooth substitutes), into Red Bull, Red Bull Zero, Coke Zero, Classic Coke and Diet Coke.…

  • Wind Turbine Challenge

    21 January 2018

    R13 pupils built and tested a working wind turbine which generated enough energy to light an LED.  Pupils were then challenged to improve their model in order to reach the maximum output voltage. The pupils displayed an enthusiastic approach as well as a healthy competitive drive throughout the workshop. Well done to Ffion and Luisa who achieved the highest output voltage of 7.07v.…

  • R14 & R15 BBC Microbit Challenge

    R14 and R15 DT pupils were introduced to simple coding techniques and logic by programming motors on a buggy. Through a series of increasingly complex challenges, pupils were able to remotely control their buggy.   Pupils worked in pairs, continually evaluating and designing their code to solve the challenges set. Finally, they raced their cars in an arena.…

    R6 brought in a favourite toy to present to the class. We had some cuddly bears, plastic figures and a large remote controlled car from Ava that could do some sharp turns! All the children spoke beautifully and answered questions from their peers. R6 have also been learning about The Arctic, the animals that live there and the lives of The Inuits.…
