As part of our maths topic on position, the children followed instructions using the Beebots.     R5 made ‘Bee my Valentine’ cards with a colourful bee picture and the children painted heart-shaped boxes as a Valentine’s gift. R5 have learnt about doubling in mathematics this week. We also read the story of ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. R5 had great fun making their own Wild Thing. They did some amazing writing as they retold the story in the correct sequence.…

    We have been preparing for our Eisteddfod in class. We have been colouring pictures of Welsh ladies, trying really hard with our handwriting and using watercolours to paint pictures of daffodils. Two more of our R7 pupils also read out their facts about Moses.…

    St John’s College experienced another victory last night after our team of finalists, Leon S (R16), Jacob V (R16) and Jack A (R16), won the area final of the annual Youth Speaks competition. The team skilfully argued their topic in front of the audience and won the round, sending them through to the Regional Final in Abergavenny on March 16th.…

    The nursery children have been learning about long and tall in their mathematics lessons this week. We worked as a team and made a long line. In our ICT lessons, we worked on our computer skills finding tall and long items and animals. The nursery children have also completed their clay magic porridge pots painting them gold and adding a sprinkle of magic using glitter.…

    On Wednesday 6th February, the newly qualified Junior Digital Leaders started their computer clubs for the different classes. Today was the R8s’ turn and they were guided through a very comprehensive introduction to Scratch Jr and managed to create a short animation. The club was a huge success and the pupils went away with a certificate and a computer club sticker.…

    Today the Nursery and Infant children celebrated Chinese New Year. The R7s had made a paper dragon and Henry lead our parade with a swirling fire stick, made from ribbon. All the children had made beautiful lanterns, R6 had created special ones for the Year of the Pig. We turned out the lights for Nursery to show their colourful lights.…

    Two teams consisting of R15-R16 pupils participated in the annual Rotary Club’s Youth Speaks public speaking competition last night hosted here in our school library. They had stiff competition from Sixth Form and R16 pupils from both Howell’s School and Llanishen High, speaking about various topics such as a modern-day dystopian society and whether AI has gone too far.…

    R5 had an amazing time playing in the snow on Friday morning. There was brilliant teamwork as the children made a snowman together. They had fun with snowballs, especially throwing them at the teachers. The children tried to do snow angels too.
