    At the start of February, all R12 and R13 pupils undertook the Matrix Challenge 2020, a national competition organised by Yorkshire and Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit. It is aimed at developing skills and understanding around the world of cybersecurity.     Every pupil in R12 and R13 have been enrolled on to the iDEA Award scheme. The award bills itself as the digital equivalent to the Duke of Edinburgh Award. In the award, participants are put through a series of badges that fall under different categories. To achieve the Bronze certificate, pupils must gain 250 points from the various categories (Citizen, Worker, Maker, Entrepreneur and Gamer) where they learn about different aspects and then complete challenges.…

  • Cardiff Schools & Colleges Public Speaking Competition

    Jacob V, of St John’s College Lower Sixth form, has won the ‘Cardiff Schools & Colleges Public Speaking Competition’ this afternoon.  This is an annual event run by Catenian Association to encourage debating across catholic education. Twelve entrants, from a number of sixth form colleges across South Wales, debated various topics, including ‘Is Climate Change unavoidable’; ‘Is the UK still a United Kingdom?’ and ‘Is Artificial Intelligence a threat to humankind?’ Jacob spoke on the fourth choice, ‘What is the future for Christian belief in 21st Century Britain?’ Jacob was awarded both a School Winner’s shield for St John’s College and an individual plaque.…
