St John’s College R11/12 Football team played Fitzalan High on Monday afternoon in what turned out to be an excellent game. The game was played at Leckwith Stadium on 3G. Both teams started brightly with both sides creating some good goal scoring opportunities. Fitzalan took the lead after 15 minutes with a well executed shot from close range. St John’s responded fantastically with two goals in the space of 10 minutes, Sayaam S scoring both. St John’s deservingly led at half time 2-1.

Fitzalan High started the second half the brighter and eventually drew level. The game then became stretched with both teams producing some fantastic goal scoring opportunities. With the game drawing to an end Fitzalan took the lead which meant St John’s really had to push for an equaliser. This left the St John’s defensive really exposed and Fitzalan added a fourth with practically the last kick of the game. Final score Fitzalan High 4 – St John’s College 2. Congratulations to all involved.

Our visitors, Rhymney Comprehensive School, brought a mixed age group squad.  The match was played at Cardiff Metropolitan on Astro Turf.  There were outstanding performances from both junior and senior squad players against a strong opposition.  The first game started with some excellent backhand sweeps up the wing, resulting in a goal scoring opportunity.  Rhymney Comprehensive came back strong on the counter attack almost scoring.  The first game was evenly balanced.  Final result 0-0 Draw.

The second game was full of exciting tackles with good passing displayed by both teams. Rhymney Comprehensive scored a goal after several clearances by the SJC defence.  SJC pulled back with an excellent pass resulting a fabulous equaliser by Tomos H.  Rhymney did quickly react to this, with one key player taking on several players and going on to score!  The final result  2-1 to Rhymney in this game.
