Welsh Baseball News

On Tuesday afternoon the R13 girls competed in a Welsh Baseball fixture against Eastern.

All of the girls loved playing the game and learnt new skills. The final score was 76-67 to Eastern. The opposing team had some very strong players. Ella and Lily had special mentions for displaying excellent fielding skills. Congratulations to Ella E and Anais for receiving player of the match. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had a great time learning a new sport.

Football News

On Monday afternoon the R12/R13 Football team played Fitzalan High School. The game was action packed with nine goals being scored. Unfortunately St John’s lost the match 6-3. Congratulations to all involved and in particular to the three St John’s goal scorers Oscar H, Crina C, Griffydd M.

Cricket News

The R12/R13 Cricket squad were involved in a highly exciting fixture vs. Bro Morgannwg on Monday afternoon. Both teams demonstrated some excellent bowling, batting and fielding skills. St John’s managed to win the game by two rounds congratulations to all involved in particular Daniel H, Tom T and Ben P who all produced outstanding individual performances.

On Tuesday afternoon the R13 Cricket squad were in action against Bro Mongannwg. Unfortunately St John’s lost the fixture but there were many positives to take. Congratulations to all involved.

The R13/14 Cricket squad hosted Stanwell on Wednesday for a fantastic afternoon of Cricket. Stanwell brought a strong squad with several county and international players. Unfortunately the result didn’t go our way however the pupils held their own throughout the fixture with some excellent bowling from Vedansh G, Daniel H and Tom T.  There was also some fantastic fielding performances from Joe M (3 catches) and Joshua Wright (2 catches). Well done to all pupils involved and a big thank you to Stanwell School for a fantastic fixture.

Thursday morning pupils from R6/7/8 were treated to an assembly and activity morning with ‘All Stars Cricket’ programme. The morning included a brief assembly explaining the programme followed by a number of skills and games in the sports hall. Well done to the R12 and R13 Tennis squad who narrowly lost to Bro Morgannwg on Thursday. All involved played fantastically well we look forward to seeing the squad develop in our busy fixture programme.

Hockey News

Well done to all hockey players who played an inter school match on Monday night.  The additional match play challenges, added in by Cardiff Met Coach Reuban, really did work the cardiovascular fitness of our hockey squad.  Well done to Lewis, Pablo,Theo, Oscar, Jamie, Tom and Harry who played last Friday night for Cardiff.  Ieaun our hockey coach wishes to celebrate St John’s College progression and player success.  Hopefully Bishop of Llandaff school will join us for a match on Monday night. A special mention to Tara, who impressed us this week with her determination on the pitch in very warm conditions.

Rounders News

The R15 girls dominated their match this afternoon versus Kings Monkton school winning 11 ½ Rounders to 1.  There were some excellent hits by Kelly, home runs by Niamh and some excellent fielding by the rest of the team: Georgia, Holly, Jasmine, Kavvya, Sammera, Alessia, Pooja and Annalisa.  Well done to Niamh who was selected as the visiting team Players’ Player of the Match.  Well done to all involved.
