  • Cathedral Choir Sings at Westminster Abbey

    As a fitting end to the academic year, on Tuesday 21 July, our Cathedral Choir travelled to London to sing evensong in the wondrous setting of Westminster Abbey.  The service began with the Director of Music and Organist Dr David Neville’s I give you a new Commandment as the introit, followed by Gibbons’ Second Service and Mendelssohn’s Blessed are the men who fear Him.…

  • Distinction for Cathedral Choristers in Grade 5 Singing

    Many congratulations to leading cathedral choristers, Dylan O and Daniel P (R12), who recently passed ABRSM Grade 5 Singing with distinction, both achieving amongst the highest marks possible.  The boys can be very proud of their achievements and will look forward to singing with our Cathedral Choir in Westminster Abbey later this month.…

  • R14 Trip to Blaenavon

    The R14 end of year trip took us to the mountains of Blaenavon. We visited the world heritage site of The Ironworks. Here the guide dressed in 18th century costume and explained that at one time half the world’s iron was produced in South Wales. We could see the hills where the limestone was quarried and where the coal was mined.…

  • R10 Trip to the International Centre for Birds of Prey

    For their end of year trip, R10 set out for Newent to visit the International Centre for Birds of Prey. We started off the day with a tour around the centre where the children were able to learn about the different birds of prey. They were lucky enough to get up close to a baby owl named Squidgit, a Peregrine Falcon, White­Tailed Sea Eagle, Kestrels and Merlins!…

  • R11 Trip to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm

    R11 celebrated their last day in the Junior School with a visit to Noah’s Ark  Zoo Farm.  It is a hands-on zoo and working farm just outside Bristol set in over 100 acres of beautiful countryside. R11 enjoyed a packed day getting close to many zoo animals like rhinos, giraffes and elephants, feeding less exotic animals, playing in indoor and outdoor adventure playgrounds and getting lost (on purpose) in the Monster Maze. …

  • End of term Pirate Day in the Nursery

    The children had lots of fun on ‘Pirate Day’. All the children dressed up as pirates and a day full of fun was had by all. The children took part in many adventures.  We walked the plank and hunted for treasure in PE.  We made pirate biscuits, Captain Hook’s hook, a telescope to look for pirate ships and we made a pirate ship in Forest School. …

  • R8 & R9 Trip to Bristol Zoo

    R8 and R9 pupils visited Bristol Zoo at the end of the summer term. The weather was good and the children had a picnic in the sunshine. They enjoyed looking at the animals in the Nocturnal House and were particularly interested in the crocodile in the Reptile House and the gorilla who was fast asleep on the floor of his enclosure.…

  • Lego & Activity Day

    3 July 2015

    For half the day the juniors met with Mr Pilling and participated in a Lego Workshop creating a Lego city with hotels, hospitals, parks and even functioning lights and sounds. The city looked particularly good when we turned out the lights in the hall. The other half of the day saw the children learning about the habitats of woodland animals by designing and creating bird houses and bug hotels.…

  • EPSCA Chess Final

    Many congratulations to the St John’s Chess Team who competed in the English Primary Schools Chess Association national final in Birmingham on Wednesday 1 July. A nail biting tournament culminated in a superb overall performance from the St John’s team which achieved 5th position overall, and was just 0.5 points away from being in 4th place and only two points away from 3rd place.  …
