Week Beginning 26th June 2017 Swimming News On Friday, eleven pupils from R10/11 represented St John’s College in the Sport Cardiff Swimming Gala Finals at the Cardiff International Pool. All pupils competed in the individual races which included 25 Front Crawl, 25m Backstroke and 25m Breaststroke. Nadia competed in the 25m Front Crawl final, Sam and Lucas competed in the 25m Breaststroke final and a huge congratulations to Harry who gained a bronze medal in the boys 25m Front Crawl final.…

R8 History Trip to Caerleon

This term R8 have been studying the Romans, and as part of their history studies they were able to visit the Roman ruins at Caerleon. There we were introduced to Alias the Roman soldier who showed us the amphitheatre, the barracks, the museum where we saw lots of artefacts that were found at the site.…

R5 Visit to Bristol Zoo

On Wednesday 28th June pupils from R5 paid a visit Bristol Zoo. It was a very wet day, but that did not prevent the children from being excited. We were lucky enough to see the seals being fed and showing off their latest tricks. We had an African workshop and Ava was very pleased that she was brave enough to touch a snake.…

Transition Week

‘G’day mates’ was ringing out between the members of R7 and R8 last week in a very successful and enjoyable Transition week when they learnt about Australia and made lots of amazing creations with an Australian flavour! Amongst the activities enjoyed by all the children were cork hat making, glittery Australian flags, Barrier Reef mobiles, Fairy Penguins, fact files on the country and famous Australian landmarks and to round up the week, the children sang two well known Australian songs together and R8s played a fun game of ‘G’day Bob!’ A wonderful week and a great time was had by all.…

Stormbreaker Junior Book Club

Book Club members were gripped by Anthony Horowitz’s action packed adventure about teenage spy, Alex Rider. Many members went on to read other texts in the popular Alex Rider series. Nursery Lunch at St Cadoc’s

The nursery joined the Catholic mothers at St Cadoc’s RC Church for lunch. We were treated to delicious sandwiches, strawberries and ice cream and cakes. The children had learnt a few songs which we thought we would make everyone sing along to – ‘Daisy, Daisy’, ‘You are my Sunshine’ and ‘If I were a butterfly’.…

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to Matilda D, Noah D, Olivia E, Leila J, Darcey J, Joseph M, Reece M, Gala S, Robert S, Joanne S, and Kofi W. They attended Mass at St David’s Metropolitan Cathedral, in glorious sunshine, on Sunday, 18th June, 2017, for their First Holy Communion. Action Against Hunger

Miss Thompson visited the Juniors during the R11 Enterprise Week. She explained, to each year group, how the charity supports those suffering from malnutrition across the world. She is part of a group of students from Exeter University, who will be climbing Machu Picchu to raise funds and awareness for this charity.…

R10 Trip to Port Eynon

R10 pupils recently visited Port Eynon in The Gower to take part in ‘Pirate Day’. After an initial slight drizzle the weather brightened to allow pupils to demonstrate their map reading and grid reference skills. Pupils then learned about the history of smuggling in past times and the involvement of the notorious Lucas family.…
