The Duke of Edinburgh programme is the world’s leading youth achievement award aimed at inspiring young people from all walks of life. The DofE award is highly valued by employers, colleges and universities and can help young people stand out from the crowd.
The DofE is all about going the extra mile – gaining new skills, pushing yourself physically, helping others and exploring new territories. At the same time, you’ll gather friendships, experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
The volunteering section allows the pupils to serve the community and learn new skills.
St John’s has successfully been running the DofE programme since 2017. Pupils can complete their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards which are delivered in-house by our own dedicated staff, Ms R Thomas and Mr B Evans.
DofE has been a gruelling but exciting task to undertake, whilst not only challenging my physical capabilities but also my mental fortitude. I am grateful for all the experiences, bonds and memories I have experienced along the way and I can't wait to continue my journey like this, throughout life
My favourite part of the DofE Award was the Expedition. It taught me a lot about working as a team and I really enjoyed pushing myself to meet the physical challenge
The DofE expeditions are always such fun weekends. they weren't easy but I've made so many memories with my friends and we laughed so much whilst doing it. By completing the volunteering, skills and physical sections, I've met new people and gained new skills.
We have welcomed some special guests such as James Hook (Wales and British and Irish Lions Rugby player) and Tori James (Professional adventurer and keynote speaker) to present the pupils with their DofE certificates at our annual awards evening.
