At St John’s College, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our co-curricular programme is an integral part of school life, providing every pupil with opportunities to discover new interests, develop existing talents, challenge themselves and experience the sense of achievement that comes from trying something new.
From the earliest years in our Nursery and Infants through to the Sixth Form, pupils are encouraged to take part in a rich and varied programme of activities, clubs, societies, teams and experiences. The programme is designed to complement our academic curriculum, helping children to develop not only knowledge and skills, but also the character, confidence and independence they need to flourish.
The breadth of opportunities is a particular strength of the St John’s experience. Pupils can explore interests across sport, music, drama, technology, the creative arts, leadership, outdoor education and service, alongside a wide range of clubs and activities. Our current programme includes opportunities ranging from orchestras, choirs and instrumental ensembles to theatrical productions, LAMDA, engineering through F1 in Schools, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and an extensive programme of sporting activities.
Importantly, our co-curricular programme is designed to be inclusive and progressive. Children are able to encounter new experiences at an early age and, as they move through the school, develop their interests and skills to an increasingly sophisticated level. A child who first discovers a love of music, sport, performance, technology or outdoor activity in the younger years can continue to develop that passion throughout their time at St John’s, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility, perform, compete, lead and represent the College.
