Music and performance are embedded across the entire school community. From Nursery onwards, pupils experience specialist music teaching, singing, instrumental opportunities and performance experiences through concerts, assemblies, productions, choirs and Eisteddfodau.
In the Junior and Senior Schools, opportunities expand through orchestra, percussion groups, brass ensembles, chamber ensembles, Big Band, cathedral choristers and the SJC Show Band. Pupils are supported in preparing for youth orchestras, competitions and public performances, while live-streamed concerts and collaborative projects further extend participation.
Strong GCSE and A-Level uptake and excellent outcomes demonstrate the value pupils place on music.
Music enables pupils to develop invaluable personal attributes such as self-discipline, initiative, imagination and sensitivity. Furthermore, on a social level, singing in a choir or playing in an ensemble fosters friendship, team-work and communication skills.
