Events and Performances Music

Our recent “Press Play” Video Game Music Concert, held on Thursday, 26th March, was a huge success, bringing together pupils, parents, and staff for an evening full of energy, creativity, and outstanding talent.

The School Hall was transformed by an impressive, large LED screen, generously provided alongside essential technical support by former SJC pupil Rhys Jones, now owner of Shockwave Digital. The visuals added a dynamic and immersive dimension to the performances, elevating the entire experience.

Musically, the evening was exceptional. From our youngest performers in the Infants through to our Sixth Form musicians, the standard was consistently high. Every musical and dance ensemble delivered incredible performances of iconic video game music, showcasing both skill and passion across all age groups.

A particular highlight of the evening was the live interactive quizzes, which proved extremely popular with the audience. Guests enthusiastically joined in using their devices, adding a fun and engaging element that made the concert truly unique. The opportunity to explore and play brand new games designed by our Computer Science pupils was also warmly received, celebrating innovation and creativity beyond the stage.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Rhys Jones for his generosity and expertise, which played a key role in the success of the event. Our gratitude also goes to all of our talented musicians, the dedicated Music Department staff, our peri teachers, and Mr Taylor, who expertly guided the evening as MC.

However, the celebrations were bittersweet, as this event was the final performance for our Upper Sixth Form students and our thanks and best wishes go to Siyona, Alfie, Roha, Adele, George and Max, all of whom will leave us at the end of the academic year.

“Press Play” was a fantastic celebration of music, technology, and pupil talent, and we look forward to many more events like this in the future.
