Our highly successful STEM Racing teams — Aetherion, Stealth, and Silver Racing — were invited to visit the Waterfront Campus at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David on Wednesday, 14th May. Following their impressive achievements at both regional and national levels, the teams were rewarded with a Motorsport Taster Day at the outstanding IQ Building in Swansea.

The day began with an engaging introduction to the wide range of opportunities available to students considering a career in motorsport. From Engineering to Motorsport Management, the courses on offer were both diverse and exciting, with a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning.

Students then took part in a CAD workshop using Fusion software, where they were challenged to design a mini block car. Some of our more experienced designers quickly went beyond the brief, creating not only the required model but also their own designs and additional objects — while others were still perfecting the basics! We suspect a little friendly rivalry was at play, particularly between the design and enterprise teams.

The visit continued with a tour of the university workshops, offering a fascinating insight into real-world motorsport engineering. Students explored Morgan cars being tested for eco fuels and aerodynamics, examined both cars and motorbikes up close, and spoke with current students about opportunities to join university race teams.

While the workshop experience was impressive, the highlight of the day for many was the chance to test their driving skills on a racing simulator at Brands Hatch. There were some dramatic moments — including a few flipped cars — and it quickly became clear who might need a little more practice before getting behind a real wheel!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to EESW and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David for providing such an inspiring and enjoyable experience. Our teams had a fantastic day and gained valuable insight into the world of motorsport.
