Dear Parents, Pupils and Friends of St John’s College, Cardiff,

As many of you will know, St John’s College is entering a new chapter of leadership.

It is with both gratitude and fondness that we announce the forthcoming retirement of our current Head, Mr Shaun Moody, who will step down on 31st August 2026. Since 2018, Mr Moody has led our school with integrity; indeed, this final period caps a remarkable 38-year career in St John’s College. We extend our heartfelt thanks to him for his loyal service and outstanding leadership, which have maintained the distinctive spirit and academic excellence of St John’s.

Looking ahead, we are delighted to welcome Mr Ramsden as our new Head, arriving on 1st September 2026. He brings to us a wealth of experience from his time as Senior Deputy Head and Director of Safeguarding at St Benedict’s School, Ealing, London.

Mr Ramsden is deeply committed to Catholic education and pastoral care. His dedication was recognised when he recently won a national “Pastoral Leader of the Year” award, reflecting his passion for safeguarding the wellbeing of young people, and nurturing a supportive school community. Beyond his professional duties, he has a genuine love of music - having been a choral scholar at University College, Oxford - and a strong commitment to community, qualities we believe resonate strongly with the ethos of St John’s.

It is an honour to be taking on the leadership of St John’s College, a school rooted in its Catholic heart and known for the strength of the relationships that support every child. This is a community that nurtures curiosity and inspires pupils in the joy and love of learning, and it is a privilege to be entrusted with guiding that work. I am looking forward to building on the strong foundations already in place and to working with pupils, parents and colleagues as we shape the next stage in the school’s life together.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we warmly welcome Mr Ramsden to St John’s College. At the same time, we once again express our deepest thanks to Shaun Moody for his years of faithful service and the continuation of the outstanding success of St John’s. We are confident that under Mr Ramsden’s leadership, St John’s will continue to flourish - academically, spiritually, and musically.
