Chess Achievements

We are delighted to share the outstanding success of Lucas at the 111th British Chess Championship (BCC), one of the UK’s most prestigious and historic chess tournaments since its inception in 1904. This year’s championship took place at the iconic St George’s Hall in Liverpool.

Over the course of seven days, Lucas competed in the British U10 Junior Championship and delivered an exceptional performance. He achieved 5 wins, 1 draw, and only 1 loss, against the eventual champion, finishing with an impressive 5.5 out of 7 points. This secured him an outright 2nd place, just half a point behind the winner.

Lucas’ performance marks the best result by a Welsh player in any age category at the BCC since 2017. This achievement also comes shortly after his victory earlier this year, when he was crowned Welsh U10 Champion in March 2025.

The picture below captures a special moment alongside Kevin Staveley MBE, BCC Director and Welsh Chess Union Home Director, and Claire McColgan, Director of Culture and Major Events for Liverpool City Council.

Lucas’ remarkable journey is a source of great pride for our school, and we look forward to celebrating many more of his successes in the years ahead.
